To address the critical need for safe food in Delhi during the COVID-19 lockdown, Butterflies in partnership with the government has been distributing food packets, raw food rations, sanitation packets free of charge to 1,000+ homeless street children and daily wagers stranded in Delhi.
The distribution began when street children reported to frontline Butterflies staff that hundreds of migrant daily wagers were crammed into the forcibly shuttered neighborhood businesses without money or food.
Butterflies immediately repurposed its Culinary and Catering School (BSCC) kitchen and staff to prepare, package, and distribute nutritious and hygienically sealed packets accompanied by a piece of fresh fruit. Raw food rations, cooking utensils and sanitation packets were also added soon. Butterflies was granted special curfew passes to distribute these items.
In a few of the sealed areas, our street child volunteers —masked and gloved —are themselves collecting the food packets and rations from the van and distributing it among the neediest.
As we enter the fourth week of this operation, the need for daily meal packets and food rations have skyrocketed from 500 to 1,700+.
WE NEED YOU TO KEEP THIS GOING. WE NEED YOUR HELP TO SAVE MORE FROM HUNGER.
